Sometimes, our diagnosis work leads to unexpected places. For example when MerseyTravel approached CPD to help their award-winning customer facing team to improve the service they offered to disadvantaged groups who use public transport, it was because of changes to the Transport Act in 2000. These changes meant that staff were providing services to groups they had not previously focused on, including people who live with significantly debilitating mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder.
CPD's innovative development solution involved a team of professional actors and mental health specialists who worked with MerseyTravel staff to increase their confidence in dealing sensitively and professionally with these customers.
This ability to find real solutions to clients' needs is absolutely key to the way CPD works. We're not about finding a way to fit old solutions to new clients. It would be rare to find another organisation that requires exactly the same solution as the MerseyTravel team, but the specialist knowledge and experience within the CPD team means that we can deliver very different solutions to meet very different needs. For example, our specialism in the area of mental health means that we can work with senior teams to support them in designing their organisational response to mental health issues as part of their response to the Disability Discrimination Act, and also their work generally in Equality & Diversity. It also can inform our support of HR teams that are considering how to respond to the government's plans to encourage people currently on incapacity benefit (many of whom are sufferers of mental illness), back to work.
